Flying Car

Tesfla's new sports car can fly? Your turn to test it!

Gameplay: Tesfla's white sports car tilts left and puffs white smoke from its left jets as it flies over the packed parking lot, with the orange-lined landing zone, the rank flags and the distant hangar ahead
  1. Hold Boost
    up the ramp
  2. Jet the side
    that dips
  3. Level, slow,
    land softly

Play with three buttons: Left, Boost and Right. You can press them at the same time.
On a computer, use the keyboard: ← → for the side jets, ↑ or Space to boost.

How to play

Hold Boost to speed up. The runway is 160 m long and ends in a ramp that curves upward. The faster you hit it, the farther you fly. Boosting burns gas, and you only get one 600 L tank. The jets in the air run on the same tank, so save some.

Once you leave the ramp, fire the jet on whichever side is dipping. Left lifts the left side, Right lifts the right side. Hold one too long and the car tips the other way, so tap and let go. Press both together to push the whole car up: you'll fly a little farther, or slow down before you land.

The car is shaky in the air to begin with, and crosswinds and gusts push it around too. The top right of the screen shows the wind direction and speed for this flight, and the windsock by the runway blows the same way.

100 cars are parked below the ramp. Land on them and you crash. Clear the whole lot and touch down in the landing zone, which starts at 84 m.

When you come down, watch the two lights at the top left: falling at 10 m/s or less and tilted 15° or less. Both green means you're safe. Getting blown past the orange lines is fine: landing on the sand beside them still counts. The car bounces and rocks a little when it touches down: a small tilt rights itself, but too much tilt, or still rolling toward one side as you touch down, tips it over. Landing too hard doesn't count either.

Distance only counts on a clean landing, measured from the top of the ramp to where you touch down. From 100 m to 500 m, there's a set of colored flags every 100 m. Fly past one and you move up a rank.

The course

  1. Start to ramp top, 160 m: a flat runway. The last 24 m is a ramp curving upward, and its top sits a little over 9 m above the sand below.
  2. 12–81 m, below the ramp: a parking lot packed with 100 cars, 4 rows of 25, with no gaps to squeeze through.
  3. 84–800 m: the landing zone. The orange lines along both edges carry the distance markers; landing on the sand outside them still counts.
  4. 100, 200, 300, 400, 500 m: five sets of rank flags.
  5. The far end: Tesfla's hangar.
